Hey gals, it’s Li again!
I have been wanting to make a pleated skirt. There are so many types of pleats, and I love all of them. However after researching, I decided that I wanted to start with a box pleated skirt. I love the volume, the look, and yada yada... BUT the real reason is that it looked easier to make than the other types of pleats. LOL.
You may be wondering why am I not wearing the skirt that I made for myself? Well, you know, when you mess up your own measurements on the pleats, you are basically saying goodbye to your skirt. But thank GOD that it fit El perfectly, so I didn't have to redo it. Phew~
Even though it seemed really easy, I took out time to do the math here because I was really confused when I looked up the tutorials. I have written it out not only for you guys, but also for my future reference. I don’t know if you can tell, my pleats were not exactly the same size across.
Also the fold line (depth) was not touching, so the skirt ended up less voluminous than I preferred. But, I was getting tired of trying to measure out everything, so I decided to just wing it. Well, it doesn’t look too bad. You guys probably will not notice unlessl I point it out. Mwahahaha~~~~
Overall summary: I definitely have to make another pleated skirt. It’s just so classic. Also, I made a shirt using the same fabric, which you can see in the picture below.
If you guys knows a better and easier way to make box pleats, please let me know. This rookie here will really appreciate that.
P.S. - you are loved!
